The Football boots I grew up with, my sister worked at Bata's who made them so I would get new pairs on the cheap. I would also get the piss taken out of me if I left the numbers on them.
Congratulations to Bayern Munich winning this season's Champions League.
This advert for kids kits from 1973 looks alright apart from the Munich kit looking more like Barcelona?
Sure they must have screwed up?
Johnny Byrne Former Crystal Palace, West Ham, Fulham and England player.
Signed for West Ham in 1962 for a then record fee of £65,000, after making over 200 appearances for Palace.
Mel Charles of Swansea, Arsenal, Cardiff and Wales fame.
In 1958 Swansea manager says that there was no chance of him going to Arsenal. In 1959 they sold him to Arsenal.
Peter Bonetti of Chelsea and England.
Peter is another player who sadly passed away this year at the age of 78.
Here are a few action shots from his career.
Bryan "Pop" Robson
A player who really doesn't get the praise he deserved, definitely of my favourite players.
Was the leagues leading scorer in the 72-73 season but didn't get a sniff at an England shirt? Also played for Newcastle, Sunderland, Chelsea and Carlisle.
Sad to hear that former Hammer Harry Hooper died over the weekend aged 87.
Harry played for West Ham from 1950 to 1956 before going on to play for Wolves, Birmingham and Sunderland. He scored a goal against Barcelona in the 1960 Fairs Cup Final.
R.I.P Harry 😢
I've just started a Twitter page for old football pictures.
The plan is to give me the motivation to update this sadly neglected blog, and give anyone who likes this stuff but doesn't want to enter the Twitterverse a chance to see and remember some of this nostalgia.
During the late 60's and early 70's I would regularly buy Shoot magazine, also one called Goal.
Sadly as a kid you didn't think of saving them for the future for nostalgia purposes and as far as I know none of them were saved.
A few years back an old workmate gave me a copy from 1969 so here are a few pages from that issue.
First up former West Ham player Peter Eustace playing for Sheffield Wednesday.
Jimmy Robertson of Arsenal 1969
